I can’t tell you how happy I was when Parasite won all those awards, particularly given how fed up I was with the plethora of Joker/OUATIH noms.

Parasite is one of my favourite films of this century, so I started to reminisce about films not in the English language from the last century. Of course, there are loads that I love. But what would I say is the best?

It’s probably impossible to choose. But thinking about Parasite – how about narrowing it down to just films with one word for a title? No ‘The‘ or ‘An‘, or even ‘L’‘. Which means that L’EclisseLe MéprisL’Atalante … none of these qualifies by my rules.

So I’ve looked back across the whole gamut of languages, countries and decades, and have come up with 10 titles that I think represent the best one-word-titled films with 1-inch-subtitles of the 20th century.

Over to you!
