The 20 Must-See Films of 2020

The Films of 2020

Dune

Not an official still just Jason Momoa being Jason Momoa on set in Jordan

Release Date: December 18, 2020

Director: Denis Villeneuve

Why we’re dying to see it? I’m not sure it actually exists.  If it does exist, I’m not sure it’s going to be good.  This is by far the biggest swing for the fences film of 2020.  Based on the insanely dense Frank Herbert Sci-Fi Classic, this adaptation has everything in its favor;

Brilliant Director? Check

Half the most in-demand Actors in Hollywood? Check

$250 Million Budget? Check

Approval of Herbert Estate? Check

Even with this in their favor, it’s still the absolute biggest gamble in an industry that gambling ends careers.  Ask David Lynch who almost lost his career over his adaptation of Dune twenty-six years ago.  Let us hope for Villeneuve who has recently made two of the best Science Fiction films of the past twenty years (Arrival and Bladerunner 2049) that this produces a grand slam home run.

Bonus Film!

The Untitled PTA Project

Paul Thomas Anderson acting as his own Cinematographer on the set of The Phantom Thread

Release Date: Unknown – Christmas 2020 or later

Director: Paul Thomas Anderson

Why we’re dying to see this? All we know about the project is that its set in the 1970s, in the Valley, and it’s about a young actor in High School on the rise.  The last time we heard the barest of plots from PTA we got The Phantom Thread. The film is expected to be shooting soon and if The Phantom Thread’s production/release schedule follows this project we will be getting said project by the end of the Year.
