Picard Season1 Episode 1 – Remembrance
Finally!
Marie and Brendan have been waiting aaaaaaaaaages for this, and it’s here at last!
Warning: We will definitely be spoiling this episode of Picard, and we have the potential to spoil episodes from other Star Trek series and films too, so please be warned.
This week, Brendan excelled himself in distilling the entire opening episode into a series of Piquant Picard Precis Prompts.
We discuss Data, daughters, and dreams. We talk a little bit about some of the musical cues we enjoyed. (Thanks to @trekcore for the evidence which proved I hadn’t misheard!)
We agree that we totally understand all of the scientific technobabble going on, and know exactly what fractal neuronic cloning is. Or do we? (Spoiler, we don’t.)
The first episode has a lot of work to do in getting everyone up to speed with what’s happened in the last decades, and we chat about how well we think that was handled.
A couple of the new characters are already potentially very interesting, and we speculate about who they might really be, or what role they’re going to play.
Plus, Marie has a rant about female characters in both Discovery and Picard and throws in a curveball about a clue she thinks she’s noticed. Brendan notes the connections to The Godfather (yes, you read that correctly).
And of course, we talk about the angry old man himself – Jean-Luc Picard. Is he the man we remember? Has he aged in the way we might have imagined?

And never forget: “If you can’t win, change the conditions of the test.” – James T Kirk
