Thus begins Season 2 of the B-Movie Podcast. What better way to begin this season with a couple of “bridge” episodes to help us along the way. The reason this double feature is named Unfinished Business is that it is just that. These were to post on the original incarnation of the B-Movie Podcast but ended up being held for the rebranding. All apologies to our special guest Co-Host and now Writer at The Movie Isle, Marie O’Sullivan!
This double feature is actually all about Jake Gyllenhaal. Not the powerhouse actor we have known him as but the one almost a decade prior that was trying to figure out who he was and his place in Hollywood. This is the one that was almost cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.
In Mike Newell’s very old-fashioned (re: dated) Prince of Persia, we have a swashbuckling adventure where Gyllenhaal attempts his best Erroyl Flynn. The results are needed to be seen to be believed. If one can look beyond the casting and some very clunky scripting there is a lot of fun to be had with this Bruckheimer produced blockbuster failure. Think of it as an Italian Knock-Off Film throwback. As a consequence of the terrible business it did, the film almost sank Gyllenhaal’s career. Though it directly tied to his decision to make our second film of the double feature. But more on that later…
