Scratch the surface of Hirayama’s (Koji Yakusho) serene, simple life, and there would be any amount of heartache and lost opportunities hidden away. But growing to accept and be happy with what you have is a gift in itself, and makes life manageable. It’s beautiful, and sad, and Koji Yakusho is at his best. 2. Godzilla Minus One / ゴジラ-1.0 (dir Takashi Yamazaki)
Way closer to the 1954 Gojira than anything Hollywood has produced. A truly fabulous film which I desperately need to rewatch very soon. Even if you’re (like me) not a regular creature feature fan, go watch the 1954 film, then watch this, then forget about all the Hollywood contributions. You’re welcome.
