Blu-Ray Review: Well Go USA’s I am T-Rex

I am T-Rex

A Kid T-Rex learns valuable lessons in I am T-Rex.  New to Blu-ray from Well Go USA.

The Film

I don’t know what else to say about I am T-Rex

This animated film about a kid T-Rex who loses his father and runs away from the evil dinosaurs that did it only to find a father figure/mentor who trains him to be the best T-Rex to avenge his father is as crazy as that plot description. I am T-Rex is less about the dinosaurs than the lessons that are learned.  Mirroring the coming-of-age Martial Arts films the film uses the runaway Kid as an excuse to teach the lessons of not just standing up to bullies but compassion for others who may not be able to do the same.

The animation is acceptable but nowhere near photorealism but that doesn’t seem to be the intent. Instead, the animation is somewhere between photorealism and the hybrid Hand Drawn/3D animation style that Disney has been favoring as of late.  The result is a film that doesn’t seem so crazy that it has dinosaurs talking – in English or Chinese (whatever your preference for language flavor).

Note about those language tracks.  Having watched the film in both languages one will want to watch in the Chinese language track which feels less… immature.  The English Language track is acceptable but the Kid T-Rex’s voice can be grating.

I am T-Rex in the end with its message of compassion is something that anyone can get behind – especially parents of little ones.  In fact, the film is kind of perfect for those kids that have exhausted the Land Before Time and Jurassic Park series.

The Transfer

The transfer provided to Well Go USA is beautifully rendered on Blu-Ray.  The handsome and sharp image has no defects or artifacting, nothing but a perfectly hi-def image.

The Extras

No Extra Features on this release.

The Final Thought

I am T-Rex falls somewhere between The Land Before Time and Jurassic Park.  Recommended – for your Dino-obsessed kiddo.

Well Go USA’s Blu-Ray edition of I am T-Rex is out now.
