Thus begins Season 2 of the B-Movie Podcast. What better way to begin this season with a couple of “bridge” episodes to help us along the way. The reason this double feature is named Unfinished Business is that it is just that. These were to post on the original incarnation of the B-Movie Podcast but ended up being held for the rebranding. All apologies to our special guest Co-Host and now Writer at The Movie Isle, Marie O’Sullivan!
This double feature is actually all about Jake Gyllenhaal. Not the powerhouse actor we have known him as but the one almost a decade prior that was trying to figure out who he was and his place in Hollywood. This is the one that was almost cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.
With Prince of Persia, a failure Gyllenhaal turned his attention to smaller features. Jim Sheridan’s remake of the Danish original, Brothers, tackles Family, Wartime, PTSD, Brotherhood, love. Sheridan casts Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire as two very opposite brothers forced to deal with very different problems as Maguire is deployed to Afghanistan. A film that toes the line between intimate drama and harrowing war film, finds success in being something that even almost a decade on increasingly rare; a mid-budget drama.
