Film Shane Singletary's Film Review

Shane’s Top 10 of 2023

Shane's Top Ten of 2023

4. The Holdovers

I am constantly bemoaning the fact that they don’t make them like they used to. A small to mid-budget film with one or two stars and a great director. The Holdovers really feels like a film out of time and exactly the type of film I was glad to watch at home around the holidays. Already a Christmas classic I can see myself watching during the holidays every year. And of course, Paul Giamatti is rightly getting all the accolades. Hoping he takes home the Oscar.

3. Killers of the Flower Moon

I really hope Scorsese keeps making movies. It’s hard to imagine a time when I won’t get a new Scorsese every few years. To no surprise, Leo and DeNiro are both doing transcendent work here, but the highlight is Lily Gladstone. She gives the female performance of the year in an understated but confident way. She deserves all the recognition she’s received and deserves the Oscar.

2. Barbie

Barbie was the most fun I had in the theater last year. I saw it with my wife and teen daughter in a packed and raucous theater. The perfect viewing experience for this one. Laughs throughout, a clever script and great performances. Greta and company pulled off what I thought impossible, making one of the best films of the year from a Barbie property.
