The first of two on-going series this month is all about Women in Film. It could be genres, actresses, filmmakers, whatever we please but it will be about one thing… Badass Women. Badass doesn’t have to tote a gun, they could just be tough as nails to take on An All-Boys Club like directing or Genre films. In fact, every Woman is a badass in their own right…
To Help with this episode I felt I needed some backup. The backup came in the form of The Movie Isle’s newest writer Olivia Moe. Olivia has just recently joined our team and I felt this was the perfect platform to introduce her on the site. Ladies and Gents… I was totally right. Buckle up for a great hour-long discussion about the film, Charlize Theron, and a host of other related and unrelated topics.
Atomic Blonde is one of the first films that I thought of when curating this series. The antidote to James Bond and the boys-only club of Spy films is Charlize Theron. Theron cast as Lorraine Broughton our James Bond but better… yeah, that’s right. While Bond sleeps his way through an adventure, Broughton does actual spycraft to get her mission accomplished. Her mission; go to Berlin on the eve of the Wall being torn down to investigate why a fellow spy was murder. This leads Broughton down a De Palma-esque rabbit hole (with ass-kicking).
